Why We Built This Site
West Virginia does not place every part of a criminal history in one public database. Nicholas County Circuit Court keeps felony case files, while Magistrate Court holds misdemeanor dockets, complaints, bail records, and preliminary felony proceedings. The sheriff creates law-enforcement records, but the county's custody searches run through the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation because Central Regional Jail serves Nicholas County. The West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau maintains fingerprint-linked state history, and WVSP also manages the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. We built this resource to sort out those lines of custody and gather the official search routes, request steps, fees, and office contacts in one place.
What You Will Find Here
- Official check instructions: how authorized fingerprint checks and personal record review work through the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau
- Record guides: how to search and interpret Nicholas County court case records
- Record relief information: how West Virginia expungement works and where a Nicholas County petition is filed
- Agency contacts: how to reach the sheriff, the two criminal court clerks, and the state systems that maintain local records
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference site, not part of a West Virginia court, law-enforcement office, or state agency. Our role has firm limits:
- We do not issue certified court records, criminal-history summaries, or other official copies
- We cannot submit a West Virginia FOIA request, expungement petition, or other filing for a reader
- We cannot retrieve a person's criminal record or perform an official background check
- We do not offer legal advice about a warrant, charge, disposition, or expungement
- We cannot promise that an office's address, fee, telephone number, or procedure has not changed
An official copy must come from the office that maintains it, such as a Nicholas County court clerk, the sheriff, or the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau. This site can identify a route, but it cannot issue the record.
Search Partners
Third-party providers power search boxes found on some pages. Each provider controls its own service, results, and prices. If a search leads to a paid enrollment, this site may receive a referral fee that supports free public access to our reference material. We neither set a partner's charges nor decide which records appear in its response.
